In this episode we explore The Allegory of Love: A Study in Medieval Tradition, C.S. Lewis's first major work of literary scholarship and the book that established his reputation as one of the great medievalists of the twentieth century.

In it Lewis traces the strange new feeling - courtly love - that he argues entered European poetry in eleventh-century Provence, a region in the south of France.

Some of its halmarks are romantic love as worship and the lover as humble servant of an idealized Lady. Lewis follows courtly love through the allegorical tradition from the medieval Romance of the Rose down through works of Chaucer, Gower, and Usk, to its culmination in Spenser's The Faerie Queene, where courtly love is at last redeemed and disciplined into married love.

Jews have allowed themselves to be divided like cake by Western imperialists into Haredim, Masortim, Datim and Hilonim. They do not even have a Supreme Rabbi to speak on their behalves, are forced to carry on voting having had 11 elections in 20 years after being tricked into peopling the American colony of Israel so that they think of themselves as Jewish as they fight and die to protect US imperial interests.

The problem is that atheists who play the Blame Game confer on Jews this narrative. If they blame Jews for everything because they do not believe in God, they are actually raising the status of Jews to a level just below that of God.

This is the divine irony of antisemitism pointing to the correct view of God as already stated in Isaiah 54:7 ie that He created good *and* evil. Christians in their soft hearted soft brained way would be saying "God wouldn't do a mean thing like that! God is lurve!"

Christians are the problem because they think Jesus is God. But who really fears divine retribution when they think of God as a man dying on a cross? Their absurd beliefs renders them moronic. When things go wrong because of their idiotic beliefs and practices, they blame Jews again.

God if He exists expects us to blame Him for our suffering because He is big enough to take it. It should be clear that if God made laws for us to follow, punishment follows if we disobey. This is clearly stated in Curses for Disobedience Deuteronomy 28.

“The Net” is a Thursday discussion with creators and thinkers online. “Let’s see what we catch” is to suggest both the improvisational nature of these discussions and the fact that we never know who is going to show up, adding to the excitement. “In the spirit of eunoia,” the second subtitle, is meant to honor an organization O.G. Rose was part of between 2008 and 2014 in Charlottesville Virginia, though “The Net” has no official affiliation with that organization now. “Eunoia” can be loosely translated as “beautiful thinking,” a phrase we have always loved, for it recalls the three infinites—the good, the true, and the beautiful. We included the second subtitle to honor that creative community which was so formative and meaningful to us.

In this conversation, I speak with theologian, missionary and author Howard A. Snyder about the radical vision of John Wesley and what it might mean for the Church today.

We explore Wesley as more than the respectable founder of a denomination. His movement brought people into small, disciplined communities where they could grow in holiness, care for one another and participate actively in God’s mission.

Howard explains why genuine Christian community requires more than attending a weekly service, how the early Methodist societies and class meetings helped ordinary people become disciples, and why the Church must recover its identity as a visible community of the Kingdom of God.

We also discuss creation care and Howard’s conviction that salvation is not simply about rescuing human souls from the earth. In Christ, God is reconciling and healing the whole creation - people, communities and the land itself.

Howard A. Snyder is a former Professor of the History and Theology of Mission at Asbury Theological Seminary and Professor of Wesley Studies at Tyndale Seminary. His many books include The Radical Wesley, The Community of the King, The Problem of Wineskins, Salvation Means Creation Healed and, most recently, Consider the Lilies: How Jesus Saves People and the Land.
